Is Sugar Making You Sluggish, Overweight, Unhappy, Weak & Powerless?

I’d like to invite you to chat about a very sweet topic indeed – SUGAR.

Why? Because the sugar conversation is one we’ve been seriously discussing over in the Code to Wellness Facebook community. By the way, if you’d like to join us over there, Click Here

I’ll be the first to raise my hand and say my relationship with sugar and sweet foods was absolute crap.

Back when I was a personal trainer, I used to have the kind of relationship with sugar where I would binge on ice cream, tell myself I was a bad person for giving into my sugar cravings (I felt like a weakling), and then punish myself for it later by exercising like a mad woman. WTF?! I know. Not cool.READ MORE

What it REALLY Means to Have the ‘Perfect Body’

This is a guest post from Tera Bucasas, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Certified Yoga Instructor, and Rebellious Gypsy

‘Perfect body’ – a phrase nearly every single woman has used to refer to the glossy images that glitter the pages of magazine covers and reality TV, yet seldom, if ever, will turn around and use it to describe herself.

This topic is a hot button for me and for many women. In most online health and wellness spaces, it flies WAY under the radar. But THIS is not one of those spaces. So, let’s have this conversation, shall we?

As the movement around food and body image grows we see a lot more about eating disorders and disordered eating being talked about. Even if we haven’t had a clinical level eating disorder, the majority of us have experienced disordered eating patterns at some point in our life.

Quick + Easy Lemon-Garlic Brussel Sprouts (with a Tang)

Even though I’ve been working in the world of health and wellness for the past 7 years, I don’t think I met a brussels sprout I truly liked until about two years ago.

Crazy. I know.

I can’t even tell you where I was when I realized how much I like them. Apparently, it wasn’t that eventful 😛

What WAS eventful, was the day that I decided to take a crack at oven BBQ-ing some ribs and whipping up these brussels sprouts as a side dish.

Alley’s Plush Peach Salad

I’m excited to announce that Alley’s Plush Peach Salad is one of the first personalized real food recipe dishes I’ve ever made!

As many of you may know, I run a Facebook community called Code to Wellness: Feeling Damn Good in Your Own Skin. Around the time of my birthday, I ran a few different giveaways in the group and one of them was entering a raffle for to win a personalized real food recipe designed just for you! I selected two winners at random and Alley was one of them.

We hopped on the phone and chatted about her favorite ingredients, her favorite dishes, her health goals, desired texture & mouth feel, and the experience she craved for in this new dish. I took notes like a madwoman as she shared her love for all sorts of fruits, veggies and proteins (avocado, peach, seafood), ethnic foods (Japanese, Thai, Indian), and creamy textures (especially in the form of soups and sauces). She also shared with me that she wanted a luxurious meal, that was filling yet weight-loss + health promoting – a combination between instant gratification (the kind we all desire from a bite of a favorite dish), true satiety, digestive peace and zero desire to “beat herself up” afterward.

Creamy Avocado Coconut Protein Smoothie

As I was going through the Code to Wellness website the other day and doing a little spring cleaning throughout the blog posts that are up, I realized that there was only one protein smoothie post.

ONLY ONE!

“What the heck! How can that be?!” were the thoughts that ran through my mind and apparently out my mouth (it was kind of hilarious…I didn’t mean to say it out load and ended up surprising my own self 😛 huge nerd moment…). It was especially odd because I feel like all I’ve been doing lately is drinking protein smoothies. I walked into my Dermatologists’ office for a routine check-up and when he offered the chance to do a Xymogen’s 6-Day-Detox I jumped at it (because, ya know, that’s kinda my thing!).

Anyways, I have a backlog of protein smoothie recipes I’ve just been itching to share with you guys. I picked out this one out from the bunch because a) it’s flipping great b) it has avocado in it c) it requires no external sweetener of any kind d) it’s a pretty minty green color e) it’s full of healthy saturated and monounsaturated fat from the coconut milk + the avocado (most smoothies only focus on the fruit and the protein content…not this one!) f) it’s not one of those watery smoothies that you look at and think, “Man…what can I add in to thicken this thing up?”, because it’s exactly how a smoothie should be – thick, creamy and full-bodied.

Let’s jump right in!

Butter Bunnies Stacked

White Chocolate Butter Bunny Bites

Okie, so I may have fibbed just a teensy bit about these White Chocolate Butter Bunnies. These actually aren’t made of white chocolate (gasp!). BUT they do taste EXACTLY like it with an added coconutty twist for extra awesomeness.

You know I actually had a completely different plan in mind for my Easter recipe this season? I was planning to make coconut macaroons that would look like bunny tales but as I did some idea hunting on Pinterest after about 50 pins these finally formulated in my mind. I do have to extend some credit to our friends over at Coconut Mama and Empowered Sustenance for providing their inspirational recipes as the base to these White Chocolate Butter Bunnies. I <3 the internet, don’t you!

Easter is 2 days away and you’re probably making a mental checklist of ALL the stuff you need to get done before then so without further ado let’s get to it, shall we?READ MORE
